Fix: Select Type of Account Error on Final ITR Validation
Fix: “Select Type of Account” Error on Final ITR Validation
This frustrating error often appears on the very last page of your ITR, right before validation. Even though your bank account details are correctly filled and visible, you still get the message:
“Select Type of Account.”
Clicking on the error does nothing—it doesn’t point you to any field, leaving you stuck.
The unexpected reason behind this issue is not the ITR utility itself, but your saved bank details on the Income Tax e-filing portal. The ITR form cross-checks with your portal profile, and any failed bank accounts can trigger this error.
Step-by-Step Solution
1. Log In to the Income Tax Portal
Go to the official Income Tax e-filing portal and log in with your credentials.
2. Navigate to Bank Account Details
From the dashboard:
- Click ‘My Profile’.
- In the left-hand menu, select ‘My Bank Account’.
3. Remove Failed Bank Accounts
In the list, you may notice some accounts under the ‘Failed Bank Accounts’ tab. These are causing the error.
- Click Remove next to each failed bank account.
- Enter a short reason for removal (e.g., Account deactivated).
- Click Generate Aadhaar OTP.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile and click Submit.
4. Re-open Your ITR Form
Once failed accounts are removed, open your ITR form again.
5. Re-validate the Return
- Go to the ‘General Information’ page and click Continue.
- Don’t panic if other tabs appear grayed out—your data is safe.
- Click Continue through each page until you reach the last one.
- Click Validate again.
✅ The error should now disappear, and you can proceed to generate your JSON file successfully.
